GIPFELI OF SWITZERLAND

SYNOPSIS

In Kantonsgipfeli, student Tobias Renggli sets out to explore all 26 Swiss cantons by bike, climbing each canton’s highest point on foot along the way. But reaching the summit is only half the adventure: Tobias is also on a quest to find the best Gipfeli, Switzerland’s beloved croissant. From challenging climbs to unexpected detours and countless variations of the iconic pastry, the journey balances physical endurance with the pleasure of discovery. Each canton brings a new landscape, a new challenge, and another opportunity to indulge. With humour and a healthy dose of self-irony, the film captures both the highs and lows of an ambitious personal challenge. Kantonsgipfeli celebrates the idea that adventure is not just about reaching the finish line, but about enjoying everything that happens along the way.

MY STATEMENT

“As part of the camera team, I accompanied Tobias on his journey through the Swiss cantons, filming from the foot of Piz Bernina to Ringelspitz and Vanil Noir. My aim was to capture the physical challenge and the character of the adventure while staying close to the moments that make the journey personal and unpredictable.

Together with junior editor Timothé Kimmel, I shaped the film in the edit, finding a balance between athletic achievement, the humour of the Gipfeli quest, and the quieter moments of discovery. What appealed to me about the project was its playful approach to adventure: a reminder that pushing your limits and enjoying the journey don't have to be mutually exclusive.”
